Third Assassination Attempt On Trump Foiled At White House Correspondents Dinner

A suspected lone gunman was stopped over the weekend after trying to carry out what authorities described as an assassination attempt targeting President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, prompting renewed scrutiny of security at the high-profile event.

Criticism over how secure the dinner was has dominated the hours since the incident at the Washington Hilton, where guests reported lax security leading up to the hotel’s ballroom.

“I wouldn’t say changes are out of the question, I think, again, it’s up to the White House here and we view it as a great responsibility to ensure the maximum safety of the President, Vice President, and safety of the entire cabinet,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said during a briefing Monday.
