Huawei Wants to Move Away (for Good) from Android on Mobile Phones

Huawei looks set to move away from Google’s Android for good in the cell phone market, opting to go exclusively with its own operating system – HarmonyOS Next.

The Nikkei Assia website says this, claiming that the current version of HarmonyOS (based on Android) is to be abandoned with the launch of the Mate 70 series of cell phones scheduled for the end of the year. Allegedly, this series of mobile devices will have HarmonyOS Next pre-installed.

The big challenge at the moment is the number of apps supported by HarmonyOS Next, with Huawei specifically focusing on expanding the number from the 4,000 to 5,000 apps currently supported to hundreds of thousands of apps.
