Reborn dolls. More Than Crazy, ‘Fake Babies’ Are Therapy

Valencia will host a private fair this weekend, which brings hundreds of people from all over the world to the city in southern Spain. The protagonists are dolls, but not just any dolls.

These are ‘Reborn’ dolls, which look like real newborn babies.

Prices range from hundreds to thousands of euros and, more than just a business, these babies have changed the lives of many people.

According to ABC, the Reborns were born in the 90s in the USA and look disconcertingly similar to a flesh-and-blood baby. There are those who buy them for pleasure, to build a collection and there are still those who see these dolls as a form of therapy.

This is the case of Londoner Amanda. In 2017, when she was struggling with depression, she discovered that one of the things that cheered her up the most and made her happy was when she held a friend’s son or interacted with her pet. “I didn’t have the emotional stability necessary to have a child or an animal, but I remembered some news I had read about the Reborns,” he says.

Amanda bought one of these dolls, which she named A.J. and who treats him like a son. “Now I have someone to look after and talk to,” he shares. Since A.J. This came into her life, Amanda stopped suffering panic attacks. And although many were initially surprised by the relationship he has with the doll, they ended up recognizing the good he does for them.

ABC spoke to a psychologist to see if this relationship is healthy, arguing that, as long as the person does not confuse reality with the imaginary, there is no problem, especially if there are signs that the presence of this ‘fake baby’ brings improvement. to people’s lives.

In France, for example, these dolls are used in homes with Alzheimer’s patients. They mention to caregivers that patients receive these dolls, hug them, and treat them as their own. Something that comforts them.
