Cost-of-living protests in Milan turned violent, with hooded youths smashing shop windows, looting stores including a Carrefour, and attacking police near the Duomo and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele.
Police responded with tear gas and water cannons, resulting in over 200 detentions mostly of minors and 14 injured officers. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called a security summit in response.
