Ex-Olympic Canoeist Indicted for Damaging Lincoln Memorial Pool

A D.C. grand jury indicted Hearn on a felony destruction of property charge after he allegedly tore up about two square feet of the newly renovated Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool on June 19, causing over $1,000 in damage. The pool, revamped earlier this year with a blue liner and filtration system ahead of America’s 250th anniversary, has faced algae and peeling issues, amid claims of broader vandalism. Hearn’s lawyers call the felony charge outrageous, insisting he is innocent and pointing to pre-existing problems, while his arraignment is scheduled for July 9.
