Elon Musk Recalls Decision to Fire Former Tesla Worker Linked to Deadly Austin Shooting

In a recent interview with biographer Walter Isaacson, Musk described dismissing Ndiaga Diagne in December 2025 after he attacked coworker Lillian Mendoza Brady, who accidentally stepped on his prayer rug during a break. Diagne, a 53-year-old from Senegal, went on to kill 19-year-old Ryder Harrington, 21-year-old Savitha Shan, and 30-year-old Jorge Pederson in a March 1, 2026, shooting outside Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden, wounding over a dozen others before police killed him.

Musk cited the case to argue for better immigration screening against extremist views clashing with Western values, while Brady’s lawsuit accuses Tesla of negligence in supervision. The FBI ruled out terrorism ties, linking the act to Diagne’s personal grievances over Iran-related events.
