On August 22, the Coast Guard intercepted the boat with help from Customs and Border Protection air support, seizing over 7,250 pounds of cocaine worth $54.5 million and detaining five people on board. Officials later destroyed the vessel as a navigation hazard. The bust underscores ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the Caribbean, following a larger 75,000-pound seizure earlier that week in Florida. Lt. Cmdr. Michael D. Torgesen praised the teamwork that made the intercept possible.
