The feature in question allows users to block any messages received from an unknown contact. ‘To protect your account and improve device performance, WhatsApp will block messages from unknown accounts if they exceed a certain volume,’ reads the description to which the WABetaInfo website has had access.
The feature is currently being tested in the beta version of WhatsApp available for Android and, from the description, everything indicates that it should also serve to combat cases of harassment in the messaging app.
