A 50-year-old man was arrested in the early hours of Sunday after murdering his 38-year-old wife following an argument in Lagoa da Prata, in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais.
The man put the victim in a chokehold, allegedly to try to stop her from getting out of the car they were both traveling in, reported G1.
The outlet reported that, according to the Military Police, the couple went for a walk and left their children at home. At one point, the man questioned his wife about an alleged betrayal, which, according to the attacker, was confirmed by the woman.
During the argument, the woman tried to get out of the car, but was strangled to death.
When he realized that his wife had no vital signs, the man decided to return home, leaving the victim’s body on the sidewalk. He then fled to a road that connected to the municipality of JaparaÃba, about 10 kilometers away. As the vehicle got stuck in the mud, the man decided to abandon it.
The man was eventually arrested at a bar in the neighborhood where he lived, to which he went on foot. According to G1, neighbors found the woman’s body and contacted the Military Police.
The authorities also indicated that the couple had frequent arguments, as the man wanted to separate, but the woman did not.
