In the month under review, the territory had 143 hotel establishments, 13 more than in the same period last year, offering 47,000 rooms, according to a statement from the Statistics and Census Services Directorate (DSEC).
In April, the average occupancy rate of hotel guest rooms stood at 83.3%, up four percentage points year-on-year, the DSEC said in the same press release.
Of the total of 1,159,000 guests, 823,000 arrived from mainland China, or 11.8% more year-on-year, while those from Taiwan (34,000) and South Korea (24,000) rose 96.1% and 245.2% respectively. The number of guests from Hong Kong (165,000) fell by 35%.
In the first four months of 2024, the average occupancy rate of hotel rooms was 84.5%, 8.4 percentage points more than in the same period last year.
At that time, hotel establishments hosted around 4.93 million people, 29.8% more than in the same period in 2023.
The Chinese special administrative region received 11.47 million visitors between January and April this year, an increase of 58.9% year-on-year, according to DSEC data.
