Harvard University agreed to a $53 million settlement with families alleging mishandling of donated remains by former morgue manager Cedric Lodge. Lodge, who worked there nearly 30 years, stole heads, brains, skin, and hands from cadavers used in teaching and research, then sold them online from 2018 to 2022; he received an eight-year prison sentence last December after pleading guilty. The deal, awaiting court approval, sets up compensation funds and prompts Harvard to add safeguards to its anatomical gift program while issuing a public apology.
