Influencer Matshidiso Shai broke her silence on 10 August 2026 with a formal public statement after a private video of her went viral on social media, sparking widespread debate across Mzansi. The statement addressed her husband, family, friends, and supporters directly, and she pulled no punches when it came to accepting blame. She wrote in the statement:
“I take full responsibility for my actions, and I apologise unreservedly.”
Her words to her husband were particularly personal: “To my husband: I am deeply sorry for hurting you and for putting our marriage under public scrutiny… I am committed to doing the work to rebuild the trust that has been broken.”

Separately, the Shai family put out their own plea, urging people to stop sharing the material and to allow the family the privacy they need during this difficult period.
