An American woman wanted to ‘play it cool’ and film how she managed to leave a Walmart supermarket, spending less than the value of the items she was carrying in her shopping bag.
The technique involves using automatic checkout machines and pretending to check out products, without actually doing so.
So, after pretending to have registered the barcode of a certain product, the woman pretended to put it in a bag, ending up putting it on her shoulder.
However, this time, the woman was caught. And what was supposed to be a funny video about how to rob a supermarket ended up becoming a video about how she had been caught.
At one point, a store employee had to go to the machine where Nesha was registering her items, to swipe a card, and at the moment when the machine gave a warning and started showing images of the woman, the registered item and at the same time, a video appeared on the screen showing Nesha a few minutes earlier, starring in her fraudulent scheme.
When the employee saw the footage, she couldn’t help but laugh before reporting the woman, who was ‘expelled’ from the store and banned from entering the store for the next two years.
If the situation wasn’t bad enough, it was made worse by the fact that the woman decided to share the video on social media.
According to the NY Post, Walmart has increased its anti-theft measures, as it loses around $3 billion a year due to thefts like this.
