A woman sued her ex-partner after he failed to promise to take her to the airport, causing her to miss a flight in New Zealand.
According to international publications, the woman explained that she and the man in question had a verbal contract that provided that the man would take her to the location and stay at her house, where he would take care of her two dogs.
CL, as she is identified in court documents, explained that she sent a message to her ex-partner the day before informing him that he should pick her up between 10am and 10:15am local time, which he did not do.
The lack of attendance caused the woman to miss the plane, which was taking her to an unidentified destination to attend a concert with friends. The situation meant that she had to catch a flight the next day, and the woman tried to get the man to pay her the additional costs of the trip, as well as the cost of transport to the plane and the cost of someone taking care of her dogs.
Situations like this had happened in the past, even after the couple, who had been together for six and a half years, separated.
CL said that HG, as her ex-partner is identified, “liked to stay at her house”.
According to international publications, the court considered the woman’s claim for compensation rejected, pointing out that “social arrangements” can be made between partners, friends and colleagues, but that in legal terms it is not possible to obtain this compensation.
“When friends don’t keep their promises, the other person may suffer a financial consequence, but it may happen that they cannot be compensated for that loss”, explained those responsible for the process.
