A man has been arrested after running naked down the aisle of a plane on an Australian domestic flight, causing a flight attendant to fall and forcing the plane to turn back.
According to the Australian Federal Police, quoted by the Associated Press, the incident occurred at the start of what was scheduled to be a 3 hour 30 minute Virgin Australia flight on Monday night from the city of Perth to Melbourne, Australia.
Flight VA696 returned to Perth airport due to an “unruly passenger”, according to a statement from the airline.
The Australian Federal Police were waiting for the plane and “the unruly passenger was removed”, Virgin Australia said. “Officers detained the man after he ran naked through the plane in mid-flight and threw a crew member to the ground, who was transferred to hospital for assessment, where he remains,” reads the statement.
They hope to summon the man to appear in a Perth court on June 14. The charges he will face have not yet been announced.
The airline apologized to “affected passengers”, adding that the safety of passengers and crew was its top priority.
No one was injured during the incident.
