The Israeli army said 50 projectiles were fired today into the north of the country from Lebanon.
“Some projectiles were intercepted,” the army added, without mentioning any casualties.
The Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah claimed to have fired “a large salvo of missiles” towards the city of Safed, in northern Israel.
At least five people were killed and 16 injured on Tuesday in an Israel Defense Forces attack on Rayak in eastern Lebanon, Lebanese officials said.
In a report previously released by Beirut, at least 2,350 people died and 10,906 were injured in Israeli attacks last year.
Hezbollah and Israel have been in confrontation since October 8, 2023, the day after the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, and, for almost a year, hostilities were limited to exchanges of fire near the border, known as the “Blue Line” , demarcation line established by the UN between Israel and Lebanon in June 2000.
In late September, Israel began a bombing campaign in southern and eastern Lebanon, but also in the suburbs of Dahieh, south of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold, where the leader of the Iranian-backed Lebanese armed group Hassan Nasrallah was killed , and other leaders.
More recently, the Israeli army also carried out attacks that left dozens of people dead in the center of the Lebanese capital and against areas in the north of the country, previously considered safer places for thousands of displaced people fleeing the bombings.
The Lebanese government indicated that more than 1.2 million people were forced to leave their homes, although only about 188,000 were registered in the 1,059 shelters created by authorities across Lebanon.
