The 20-year-old arrested for the murder of an 11-year-old child on a football pitch in Mocejón, Toledo, Spain, has been remanded in custody without bail.
According to the Spanish press, the suspect appeared before Toledo’s Court of Instruction No. 3 on Thursday. He will be held in the Ocaña centre.
It should be noted that before his testimony, the investigating judge requested a medical report. The result determined the need to carry out an interrogation adapted ‘to his situation of disability’, as provided for in the law.
This adaptation consisted of appointing a facilitator who assisted the person under investigation throughout his testimony before the judge, in order to help him understand and be understood, explains the Spanish daily ABC.
In addition to this initial forensic report, the investigating judge also agreed to request a forensic report on the defendant’s imputability.
It should be noted that the young man confessed to the crime. The victim, Mateo, was stabbed to death while playing with friends on a football pitch on Sunday. The suspect was arrested the following day by the Guardia Civil.
The striker’s father had already revealed that his son suffers from a 70 per cent intellectual disability, which is considered serious. He lived in Madrid with his mother and younger brother and spent time in the city of Toledo, where his father and paternal grandparents live.
