A young chef has inherited a pot that belonged to her grandmother and was originally a wedding present in 1954. Maddy DeVita, who is a private chef, couldn’t contain her excitement when she received the ‘gift’, which until then had been in the possession of one of her uncles.
The family gathered last month in Paramus, New Jersey, to celebrate Marie DeVita’s life and choose pieces from her collection of jewelry and accessories.
However, a pot used since 1954 was not on display.
“About 20 years ago, I claimed this pot – it was very special to me, because my mother taught me how to make risotto here,” explained Maddy DeVita’s uncle, in the video posted by the young woman on social media.
The man realized it was time to pass the baton on to the next generation, and decided to give the pot to Maddy.
“It was very emotional, because the pot is an heirloom for my whole family,” the young woman told Good Morning America.
The private chef said that, during the pandemic, she spent a lot of time cooking with her grandmother, whose recipes most often involved that pot.
