Trump Bought a Tesla, But First He Checked Price Notes

US President Donald Trump has bought a Tesla to support, in his words, the “great American” Elon Musk, at a time when the company is seeing a drop in sales. However, before that he did a small ‘market study’ that was recorded by photographers at an event at the White House.

The photograph, which you can see in the images above, shows the Republican president with a list of the prices of the Teslas that were parked on the South Lawn of the White House, according to the website Business Insider.

“Teslas can be purchased starting at $299/month or $35,000,” read the handwritten notes attached alongside a speech by Donald Trump.

On Tuesday, Trump announced he would buy a Tesla because it is “a great product” and to support Elon Musk, a man who has “devoted his energy and his life to doing this” and who has been treated “very unfairly by a very small group of people.”

Trump ended up choosing a red Tesla Model S, which sells for around $80,000 (around €73,000) and said he would give his 17-year-old granddaughter Kai a Cybertruck.

While reaffirming his support for Elon Musk, Trump also said that the attacks on Tesla dealerships will be classified as domestic terrorism and the perpetrators will go through “hell.”

“They are hurting a great American company,” Trump said, referring to the anti-Tesla protesters. “We’re going to get you and… you’re going to go through hell.”

It should be noted that Tesla’s sales have declined in several European countries and in Canada, countries where the political positions taken by the businessman have made him the target of strong criticism.

Tesla shares have lost more than 50% since their peak last December, and Musk’s fortune has fallen by about $70 billion (64 billion euros) in a month, although he remains the world’s richest man, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
