Jesus Ayala, now 20, and Jzamir Keys, now 18, pleaded guilty in October to second-degree murder with a deadly weapon for the August 14, 2023, killing of 66-year-old Probst during a morning crime spree that included stealing four cars and striking other cyclists. Ayala faces 20 years to life; Keys faces 18 years to life, with other charges set to be dismissed. Probst’s family remembers him as a devoted husband, father, and cycling enthusiast in retirement; they filed a wrongful death suit alleging a theft vulnerability in the stolen Hyundai Elantra.
