Apple has reportedly sent a warning to iPhone users in 98 different countries that they may have been the target of a “mercenary spyware attack”, which may have compromised the private data stored on their devices.
“Apple has detected that you are the target of a mercenary spyware attack that is attempting to remotely compromise your iPhone,” reads the notification sent by Apple shared by the TechCrunch website. “This attack is likely targeting you specifically because of who you are or what you do.”
It’s not clear how Apple is able to detect these types of attacks, but given that this isn’t the first time the ‘Apple Company’ has sent out these types of warnings, there’s probably cause for concern if you’ve received this notice.
If you have received this warning, it is recommended that you activate Lockdown mode in order to protect your device.
