SIU’s Covid Cash Crackdown: R18M TERS Fraud Raids Storm KZN – Arrests Incoming


The Special Investigating Unit (SIU), with support from the National Investigation Unit (NIU) and the Hawks, is conducting raids across KwaZulu-Natal targeting suspects accused of fraudulently claiming and misusing R18 million in Covid-19 Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) funds.


Among those implicated is Thamsanqa Madlala of Bokoharama Construction, who also serves as a councillor at Ray Nkonyeni Local Municipality. Other suspects include Nhlakanipho Mngomezulu (Scrums Holdings), Yolanda Mgobo, Sphamandla Sokhela, Nhlakanipho Zondi, Senzo Gumede (Amakhosazana Construction), Siboniso Cele, and Simtholile Dlamini.


The raids are part of ongoing efforts to hold individuals accountable for Covid-19 relief fund abuses.
