Portuguese JAfonso Becomes World Champion At Esports World Cup

Portuguese player João ‘JAfonso’ Afonso won the Esports World Cup this Sunday.

 

The 20-year-old from Madeira won a prize of 300,000 dollars (around 270,000 euros).

The competition took place this Sunday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

According to RTP, the youngster, who plays for the ‘Luna Galaxy’ team, was the best player in the group stage, winning six of the seven matches. In the final, he won 6-2.

The achievement was recognized by the Portuguese national team on social media, where they said: ‘On top of the world. JAfonso is world champion in Virtual Football at the Esports World Cup’.

The Portugueseman’s victory also reached the political arena, with the Liberal Initiative (IL) pointing out: ‘He’s a champion! JAfonso is world champion at the Esports World Cup’. ‘The 20-year-old from Madeira on the Luna Galaxy team beat all the competition in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia,’ the IL emphasized on X.
