Pornographic Film Shown on the Streets of Fafe, Portugal

People walking around Fafe’s Multipurpose Pavilion last Wednesday (24), where a sporting event was taking place, came across something rather unusual. A digital billboard, which is part of the local authority’s new equipment, was showing a pornographic movie.

All this happened due to a computer attack. This led to institutional information for residents and visitors being replaced by something far more daring. “One of our media was used to broadcast an unauthorized video, which the Municipality does not identify with, it repudiates, and we immediately took the measures that are included in the public administration’s cybersecurity plans,” explained Paula Nogueira, councillor for Tourism, during the presentation of the Fafe Digital project, in statements quoted by Jornal de Notícias.

The municipality believes that the perpetrator of the attack will be quickly identified

The councillor says that it was “an attack on one post and not on the whole network. This shows that we are protected, that we respect the rules. And that we are attentive and have the tools to detect it”. It is also stated that the situation was immediately reported to the National Cybersecurity Center, “as is mandatory, and that it will then initiate all legal proceedings with the judicial and police authorities.” An investigation is now underway which could lead to the identification of the perpetrator of the attack.
