One Dead, Several Wounded in Shooting in Paris Suburbs

One person died and at least three others were seriously injured in a shooting on Friday night in Sevran, in the north-eastern suburbs of Paris, the French public prosecutor’s office said today.

The shooting, first reported by the news website Actu 17, took place in Beaudottes, a neighborhood known for being the scene of sporadic clashes, at around midnight, near the Micro-folie cultural center.

The perpetrators of the shooting fled, according to Actu 17, and the police have set up a security perimeter.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation into voluntary homicide and attempted voluntary homicide by an organized group.

The settling of scores between organized criminal groups has been on the rise in France recently. In 2023, the security forces recorded 85 deaths, 20% more than in 2022, 49 of which were in Marseille, a city where some neighborhoods are plagued by drug trafficking.
