Norway Announces Border Control After Terrorist Threat Worsens

The Norwegian authorities announced today the imposition of temporary land border controls, after the internal security services raised the level of terrorist threat.

In a statement, the Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) said that land border controls will be in place until October 22.

The decision was announced after the authorities raised the terrorist threat level in the country to “high” on Tuesday, saying they feared repercussions from the current escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, particularly against “Jewish and Israeli” targets.

Norway is not a member of the European Union, but the country is part of the European free movement zone, known as the Schengen area.

The country has land borders with Sweden and Finland, members of the European Union and the Schengen area.

Police said the temporary border control will not involve checking all travelers and no delays are expected at border crossings.

Israel’s embassies in Denmark and Sweden have recently been the target of attacks, the former with explosions near its premises and the latter with projectiles fired at its building, without any injuries.
