Tokyo, 13 Mar 2025 (Lusa) — Sporting midfielder Hidemasa Morita has been called up for Japan’s matches against Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, the Asian Zone qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
Morita, who returned to the Sporting team on Sunday as a substitute after missing several games due to a muscle injury, is part of the 25 chosen by coach Hajime Moriyasu.
Japan, who host Bahrain next Thursday and Saudi Arabia a few days later on the 25th, lead their qualifying group with 16 points from six games and are, with four rounds to go, very close to securing direct qualification for the World Cup.
The first two positions in the three groups of this phase of the Asian zone guarantee immediate qualification, while the third and fourth-placed teams go through to a fourth round of two groups.
