“Minimum Wage Only Serves 10 Days In Mozambique And Accelerates Death” – Says OTM

On the eve of Labour Day, which will be celebrated tomorrow, May 1, the Workers’ Organization of Mozambique (OTM) made a worrying statement on Tuesday. According to the organization, the minimum wage paid in the country contributes to increasing poverty among workers, as it is not enough to cover basic expenses and is only good for a mere 10 days.

The OTM argues that this scenario not only compromises the well-being of workers, but also accelerates its deterioration and deepens the absolute poverty of families, since the value of the minimum wage is not even enough to buy a bicycle.

On the other hand, people interviewed by our team said that 8,000 meticais is not enough to cover all household expenses.
