A 62-year-old man has been sentenced to 11 years in prison in Salerno, Italy, for the murder of his 58-year-old sister.
According to the Italian edition of Today, Aniello Palumbo attacked Maria Cristina, with a hammer, during an argument about the inheritance left by her parents.
After the violent attack, the woman spent five months in a coma, until she died, due to the injuries caused by her brother.
Despite this and the Italian Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) asking for 24 years in prison for Aniello, the Salerno Court of Justice accepted the Defense’s thesis, according to which the murder was not premeditated, and sentenced him to just 11 years.
The facts date back to March 2022, during a meeting between the two brothers, on the family property, in the Berardinetti neighborhood of Scafati. The argument, which had been going on for some time, quickly exploded and Aniello went from words to actions, attacking his sister with a hammer.
Doctors still tried to save her and the woman underwent surgery, but ended up dying in August of the same year, in the hospital.
