A town in Suffolk County, USA, decided to install a tunnel under a busy highway to preserve the local frog population.
The tunnel was inaugurated two years ago, but continues to be improved. It has a protective fence to prevent the amphibians from getting onto the road and connects two ponds that the frogs can visit and croak in.
According to CBS News, the idea of building this tunnel came about four years ago when John Turner, a nature lover, realized that many amphibians were fatally run over trying to get from one pond to the other.
The man decided to submit a request for the situation to be resolved and what was born was what the North American media call the ‘tunnel of love’.
Now, species such as the wood frog, beach frog and gray tree frog can thrive instead of surviving, says Dan Losquadro, a local mayor.
