Knee Strike In Friendly Match Leaves Young Player Brain Dead

This Thursday, Marca tells the story of Guo Jiaxuan, an 18-year-old who is on death’s door in a hospital bed in the neighboring country. The center-back, from Chinese side Beijing Guoan, took an unintentional knee to the head during a training match with the RC Alcobendas team, from the Madrid region, which practically resulted in brain death.

“He has very little chance of survival. The doctor says that there is very little hope that he will survive, that he is clinically dead as a result of the lack of oxygen to the brain and that they are going to remove the tubes,” wrote his brother on the Chinese social network Xiaohongshu, in statements reproduced by ‘El Mundo’.

Guo Jiaxuan’s father doesn’t accept his son’s diagnosis and intends to take him to his native China for further treatment, counting on the support of the Beijing Football Association to repatriate the player, who has already tried out for Bayern Munich’s youth team.

Meanwhile, RC Alcobendas have issued a statement wishing Guo Jiaxuan well. “We want to express our deepest concern for the player from the Beijing Football Association delegation who suffered an accident during a private match against our team. We send all our support to him, his family and the team at this difficult time. We wish him a speedy recovery,” reads the club’s social media post.
