A young hostage in Gaza, who had been kidnapped by ISIS at the age of 11 and then sold to Hamas, has been released.

The rescue operation was the result of a mission that took months to prepare and culminated in Israeli forces managing to rescue Fawzia Amin Sido, now 21, earlier this week.

“In a complex operation coordinated between Israel, the United States and other international actors, she was recently rescued in a secret mission in the Gaza Strip, via the Karem Shalom crossing,” the army said, specifying that the young woman was later transported to Jordan and finally to Iraq, where her family is currently staying.

Israeli forces explained that a militiaman died during the war in Gaza, probably following a bombing, and that Fawzia Amin Sido took the opportunity to escape.

The young woman, the ministry said, was kidnapped by “IS terrorists” and taken to several countries before being released. The places where she had been were not mentioned.

The moment when Fawzia Amin Sido was reunited with her family was recorded in a video that can be seen above. The international press reports that despite being physically well and happy to be back home, Fawzia had suffered many traumas.

The authorities say, however, that her story serves as a reminder of the brutality to which Yazidi children are subjected, who are taken without choice, some being used as sex slaves and others being trained to fight in the war.
