Israel Intercepts Missile Launched From Yemen

The Israeli army intercepted a ballistic missile fired from Yemen overnight before it reached Israeli territory, the military force confirmed in a statement.

The missile’s arrival triggered anti-aircraft alarms in several parts of central and southern Israel.

The fragments of the interceptor missile, launched using the well-known Arrow 3 system, fell in Israel without causing any injuries, according to the country’s emergency service, Magen David Adon (MDA).

MDA paramedics treated four people for anxiety symptoms they suffered as they were heading to shelters after the alarms sounded.

Yemen’s Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, have been attacking Israeli territory and positions linked to Israel in the Red and Arabian Seas since October last year, following the start of the war in Gaza.

However, in recent months, the arrival of drones and missiles fired by the rebel group against the Hebrew state has also intensified as Israel was winding down its offensive against Lebanon.

The leader of Yemen’s Shiite Houthi rebels, Abdelmalek al-Houthi, said on Thursday that the ceasefire in Lebanon marked a “historic victory” for the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah, but vowed to continue attacking Israel.

“What has been achieved on the Lebanese front must be exploited with greater effort than before, both on the Iraqi front and on the Yemeni front,” he said.

The US-led ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon came into force on Wednesday, although since then there have been several incidents in the south of the Arab country in which the Israeli army has opened fire, citing the presence of Hezbollah militias.
