“Insufficient Evidence”. Case of Alleged Rape Against Mbappé Was Closed

The Swedish Public Prosecutor’s Office announced on Thursday that it had dropped the charges against Kylian Mbappé for alleged rape. Prosecutor Marina Chirakova, who led the preliminary investigation, pointed to the lack of evidence, although she never identified the accused.

“During the course of the investigation, there was one person accused, reasonably suspected, of rape and two cases of sexual harassment, but my assessment is that the evidence is insufficient to proceed and the investigation is therefore closed,” Marina Chirakova said in a statement, quoted by Expressen, without mentioning the French star’s name.

Mbappé, it should be noted, had been accused of rape on October 10, after having been in Stockholm, the Swedish capital. The Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that it was investigating the case, but without ever identifying the accused. The Swedish press, however, assured that the alleged victim identified Mbappé as the perpetrator of the crime, but the Real Madrid player quickly classified the reports as “fake news”.
