A Minnesota horticulture professor has won a contest to find the world’s heaviest pumpkin for the fourth year in a row in Half Moon Bay, California.
Travis Gienger of Anoka emerged victorious in the 51st World Pumpkin Weigh-In Championship by 6 pounds on Monday, the Associated Press reported.
Still, his 2,500-pound pumpkin fell short of the record set last year, when a 2,700-pound pumpkin took the gold.
As in 2023, the 44-year-old said he has focused on cultivating healthy soil to keep his plants well-fed. However, a cold, rainy fall has affected his pumpkin’s growth.
.
The man and his family transported the vegetable for 35 hours to California. Now, the pumpkin will head to the south of that North American state, where a team of professional carvers will make a 3D sculpture at an event dedicated to Halloween.
