Prime Minister Michel Barnier has reportedly already submitted his resignation to the French president.
The two leaders met shortly before 10 am at the Élysée Palace in Paris. The meeting was reportedly held for Michel Barnier to submit his resignation.
The meeting took place after the French government was ousted on Wednesday following the approval of motions of no confidence, with 331 votes in favor.
This was the first time that a French government had fallen since 1962, and the fastest fall since the adoption of the French Constitution in 1958.
Michel Barnier took office as Prime Minister of France on 5 September, having been in office for less than 100 days.
