A British officer has been charged with police misconduct for allegedly taking money from a man who died on the road in Harringay, north London, in September 2022.
Craig Carter, 51, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, PA reports.
The officer, who lives in Harlow, in the county of Essex, was suspended from duty after the charge was handed down, since he “deliberately and without excuse or reasonable justification committed a wrong amounting to an abuse of the public trust by stealing money from a deceased man in the street”.
In fact, Scotland Yard confirmed in a statement that the officer was on duty at the time of the incident.
The case is expected to move to the jurisdiction of a Crown Court, due to the seriousness of the allegations.
