British Authorities Investigate Death Of Tourist In Tavira Hotel

The British authorities are investigating the death of an Essex tourist who died in a hotel in Tavira, Algarve, where he was on vacation with his wife last April.

According to Essex Live, Christopher Rayner, 70, was found unconscious in the hotel where he was staying with his wife on April 23, but the causes of his death are not yet known.

This Tuesday, Essex Magistrates’ Court opened an inquest into the man’s death.

In court, the Essex coroner revealed that she was unable to pinpoint the preliminary cause of the British man’s death, as the Portuguese authorities have not yet given her the post-mortem examinations.

“[Christopher Rayner] died in Tavira, Portugal. And the body was transferred from Portugal to Essex. He was found unconscious in Portugal by his wife, in the hotel where they were staying. It will probably be some time before we know the causes of his death, we are in the hands of the Portuguese authorities,” said Michelle Brown.
