Brazil will host the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, according to the results of today’s vote by FIFA’s 211 members, who chose the South American bid over a joint bid from Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
The FIFA Congress in Bangkok, Thailand, selected Brazil from a shortlist of two bids to host the 2027 tournament.
A joint bid from the United States and Mexico was canceled at the end of last month and another, from South Africa, was withdrawn in November.
The Brazilian team described the announcement as a victory for women’s soccer, their country and South America.
Brazil was the best-placed candidate to host the 2027 women’s World Cup, according to FIFA’s technical evaluation.
The last women’s World Cup was held in 2023 and was co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, in a competition in which Portugal made their debut – being eliminated in the group stage – and Spain won the trophy for the first time.
