The audio transcript of the black box reveals that the co-pilot asked what was happening when he realized that the aircraft was losing lift.
The cockpit voice recorder of the Voepass ATR 72-500 aeroplane that crashed last week in São Paulo, Brazil, recorded conversations between the pilots about ‘powering up’ the aircraft minutes before the crash. The recordings also show screams from the plane.
The two-hour recordings were made by a laboratory linked to the Brazilian Air Force. According to Jornal Nacional, quoted by G1, the analysis of the audio recordings from the cockpit failed to determine what caused the plane to crash.
The audio transcript of the black box reveals that the co-pilot asked what was happening when he realised that the aircraft was losing lift. He then said that it was necessary to ‘give power’ in an attempt to stabilise the plane and prevent it from crashing.
The recording ends with screams and the crash of the aircraft against the ground.
The plane, a twin-engine ATR 72-500, which was flying between Cascavel and São Paulo, crashed at around 1.25pm (5.25pm in Lisbon) on Friday. All 62 passengers on board died.
Among the fatalities was a woman of Portuguese nationality. Gracinda Marina Castelo da Silva was 47 years old and was on board with her husband, Nélvio José Hubner, a Brazilian citizen, to whom she had been married for 25 years.
