Bavarian Government Says Munich Hit Is “Suspicious Attack”

The car crash that injured at least 28 people this morning in Munich, Germany, was “a suspected attack”.

This was stated by the Prime Minister of the Bavaria region, Markus Söder, at a time when details about the identity of the suspect are becoming known.

“The attack shows us that something needs to change in Germany – and quickly,” he said, quoted by the BBC.

Meanwhile, the authorities have confirmed that the suspect is a 24-year-old Afghan asylum seeker. The authorities revealed that the suspect already had a police record for theft and drug offenses.

The police also said that they do not believe the hit-and-run incident was related to the Munich Security Conference, which was scheduled to take place tomorrow.

This morning, at 10.30 a.m. [one hour less in mainland Portugal], a man ran over dozens of people in the Dachauer Straße area in a Mini Cooper car. The driver was arrested at the time.
