“These turbulent allegations have created a hysterical media circus that, if left unchecked, will irreparably deprive Mr. Combs of a fair trial,” they said.
As Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs faces mounting sexual assault allegations, his lawyers are demanding that the alleged victims be identified.
Four men and two women sued Combs for sexual assault and rape on Monday, October 14.
These individuals filed the lawsuits as ‘John’ and ‘Jane Does’, joined by attorney Tony Buzbee, who revealed that he is representing 120 unidentified victims.
According to People magazine, on Tuesday, October 15, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ legal team filed new court documents and demanded “that the government identify the alleged victims” so that Combs “can prepare for trial.”
Diddy’s lawyers point out that the case “is unique” because of his “celebrity status and wealth.”
Last week, his lawyers also accused the government of releasing evidence, including 2016 surveillance footage of Diddy physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, “to tarnish his image.”
In Tuesday’s filing, the rapper’s lawyers argued that the additional lawsuits have created “a widespread ripple effect,” prompting accusers to make claims that are “false” and “completely absurd.”
“These wild allegations have created a hysterical media circus that, if left unchecked, will irreparably deprive Mr. Combs of a fair trial, if he hasn’t already,” they said.
The lawyers also argue that “without clarity” on the names of the alleged victims, there is no way for Diddy to know who his accusers are. They also believe that releasing the names will include “voluminous evidence of consensual sexual activity, making it even more difficult for Mr. Combs to determine which of his previous sexual partners are now claiming, years later, that they felt coerced.”
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was arrested at a Manhattan hotel on September 16. He is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn after being denied bail twice.
