Mozambique Police Fire At People Protesting Against Disputed Election

Police fired teargas and rubber bullets as protests continued in Mozambique against the disputed 9 October election.
Civil society groups have accused Frelimo, the party that has ruled Mozambique since independence in 1975, of registering almost 900,000 fake voters, out of an electorate of 17 million. The party’s presidential candidate, Daniel Chapo, secured 70.7% of the vote, according to official results, ensuring Frelimo retained power. Mozambique’s young population – the average age is less than 18 – is turning against Frelimo
