Child Shoots 2-Year-Old Brother to Death After Finding Gun in Glove Compartment

A seven-year-old boy shot and killed his two-year-old brother on Monday afternoon after finding a firearm in the glove compartment of the van he was in in Rancho Cucamonga, in the US state of California.

The children’s mother had just parked and was outside the vehicle, unloading items, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Gloria Huerta told ABC News.

The shooting, which occurred at 4pm (local time), was believed to have been accidental, according to the same source.

Still, the investigation continues.

Last year, there were 411 accidental shootings by children, the highest number reported by ‘Everytown for Gun Safety’ since it began monitoring the situation in 2015.

This year, there were at least 270 unintentional shootings, which caused around 99 deaths, according to the organization.
