DeLong, 29, responded to a report of property damage on Holstein Lane Saturday morning in Columbia, South Carolina, and pursued a matching vehicle to Southeast Park. Backup Officer David Dymock arrived, but the encounter escalated into gunfire; DeLong died at the scene, Dymock survived with wounds, and suspect Adam Dowdy, 33, also perished. Survived by wife Hannah—who shared her heartbreak online about losing her high school sweetheart and father of their two young children—DeLong had served since 2024.
