French Montana Gives $75,000 Check to Cab Driver Attacked by Knicks Fans

On June 10, after the Knicks’ Game 4 Finals win over the Spurs—their first title since 1973—rowdy fans near Madison Square Garden assaulted 59-year-old Algerian immigrant Noureddine Bitat, injuring him and wrecking his taxi. French Montana saw the video, connected with the New York Taxi Workers Alliance for a GoFundMe that raised $75,000 from over 2,000 donors, and presented the check Thursday while pledging to cover six months of Bitat’s living expenses. Bitat, who works 13-14 hour shifts to support his family, called the support overwhelming, restoring his faith in the city amid the post-championship chaos.
