“The units of the southern military grouping liberated the village of Andriivka after active operations,” the same military statement said.
The Russian forces also claim to have “improved their positions on the line of contact with the enemy” (Ukraine) in the Donetsk region, where Kiev reportedly lost around “500 servicemen in one day”, the statement adds.
The previous day, the Russian military reported the conquest of the village of Klischiivka, about seven kilometers south of the Bakhmut stronghold.
This village, which before the war was inhabited by half a thousand people, was taken by Russian forces in January 2023, but the Ukrainian army retook the area in September of the same year as part of Kiev’s counter-offensive.
After the offensive in the Kharkiv region, there are two Russian conquests in Donetsk: a tactical priority for Moscow, which seeks to create a “sanitary zone” along the borders, and to reduce the intensity of enemy attacks in Russia’s border regions.
Although Ukraine has launched reinforcements in the Kharkiv region and claims to have halted the Russian offensive in this sector, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed today that Moscow’s forces continue to advance between Ukrainian defensive lines.
According to the US Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russia has taken advantage of the situation in Kharkiv to reactivate operations in the direction of Chasiv Yar.
