The Gaza Ministry of Health said, in a statement published on the social network Telegram, that “the Indonesian field hospital and Tal al-Sultan clinic have ceased operations, leaving only the Tal al-Sultan maternity hospital fighting for its survival and providing services to patients in Rafah province”.
Gaza health authorities accused Israel of “deliberately attacking many hospitals and primary care centers” in the area, which caused “serious damage, in addition to the martyrdom of several health professionals and difficulties for the population to reach them.”
The offensive had already caused the suspension of operations in several hospitals and centers in the city, namely the Abu Yusef al-Nayar hospital, the Abu al-Walid medical center, the Rafah field hospital and the Kuwait specialized hospital.
“We reiterate our appeal to all international institutions to provide protection to all hospitals, healthcare professionals and ambulances in the face of the oppression and arrogance of the Israeli occupation”, he stressed, also referring to the intensification of Israel’s offensive in recent days against the city .
The shortage of medical facilities poses a threat to the health of sick and injured Palestinians as a result of Israeli attacks, including the one carried out in the early hours of Monday on a displacement camp in Rafah, which left at least 45 dead and around 250 injured. according to Gaza authorities.
Israel launched its offensive against Rafah on May 6, shortly after rejecting a ceasefire proposal presented by Egypt and Qatar that had been supported by Hamas, which led to the suspension of humanitarian operations through border crossings.
Tensions have since risen due to the intensification of the Israeli offensive in Gaza, despite international appeals and an order from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to end its attacks.
The war between Israel and Hamas began on October 7, after the Palestinian Islamist group entered Israeli territory and killed around 1,200 people and kidnapped around 240 others. Hamas claims that more than 36,000 people have already died in the Israeli offensive on the Palestinian enclave.
