More than 1,400 packages of methamphetamine were found inside a shipment of pumpkins in the US state of California on Monday morning.
The discovery took place at 6.47am that morning, when US Customs and Border Protection officers working at the Otay Mesase commercial premises came across a 44-year-old man transporting a load of pumpkins in a commercial truck, according to a statement released on Wednesday and quoted by ABC News.
When they checked the vehicle, which had a trailer, “irregularities were detected”, so a sniffer dog had to be deployed, which “alerted police officers to the presence of narcotics”.
In total, 1,4119 packages of methamphetamines were recovered, hidden in the load of pumpkins and worth around 18,350,400 dollars (around 16,919,344 euros).
The drugs were seized, along with the vehicle and trailer. The man was arrested.
