German police have seized 90kg of chocolate at Hamburg airport. The bars of the internet-famous sweet were found in three suitcases belonging to a 33-year-old traveller.
The chocolate in question went viral after TikTok food influencer Maria Vehera posted a video of herself eating a bar in 2023.
It is a crunchy mix of pistachio cream and knafeh – a crispy filo pastry used in the baklava dessert – covered in milk chocolate.
According to Reuters, the 33-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, failed to declare 460 bars that she will distribute across three suitcases. The suspect said she paid €4.60 for each of the bars.
The woman has not been arrested but is being investigated for possible tax evasion.
